NOTTINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND CANNABIS CULTIVATION
A man must spend six weeks in jail for leaving his partner with multiple injuries and then spitting into her face.Kamil Janus was detained after a phone call was made to police officers but was suddenly cut off, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard.
Officers found the woman "crying and shaking," said Emma Wakefield, prosecuting.
When asked who had assaulted her, the woman pointed up the stairs of their home in Beauvale Road, Nottingham.
Janus, 33, was up there.
Emma Wakefield, prosecuting, said: "He said that he and his partner were having words." "He said she could be belligerent.
He admitted they had been pulling and pushing each other." "As he was brought downstairs, he spat at the woman, hitting her in the face." A 12-week prison term was imposed on Janus.
He admitted assault by beating and producing 15 cannabis plants.
He will serve half the time in custody and the rest on probation.
District Judge Leo Pyle told him: "You left your partner with multiple injuries, a noticeable lump on the side of the head, bruises, marks and grazes on the arm.
"Officers found you reeking of alcohol in a bedroom.
You spat in her face to add insult to injury on top of the injuries you meted out." James Buckley, mitigating, said that Janus co-operated with police officers.
Without that, it might never have ended up in a charge.
"He knows that the court takes a very dim view of any incident of domestic violence," said Mr Buckley.
Janus had bought 40 cannabis seeds to grow plants so he could have a drug supply for himself.
"The defendant was using a 40-watt light bulb which gives an indication of the amateur nature of the grow," added Mr Buckley.
