NOTTINGHAM CYCLIST JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMEN AFTER ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS
A cyclist who sexually assaulted two women after asking them for directions has been jailed.Junaid Zaman, aged 25, approached his victims in the Lenton area of Nottingham in May of this year and inquired about directions before initiating his attacks.
He made sexually explicit remarks prior to sexually assaulting them.
These night-time assaults took place on Church Street and Sherwin Road on Sunday, May 28 and Monday, May 29, respectively.
Following the incidents, extra police officers were deployed to patrol the surrounding streets.
When Zaman was arrested a week later, both victims positively identified him during a video identification parade.
Zaman, who resides on Wollaton Hall Drive, Lenton, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, July 18, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Inspector Craig Hall of Nottinghamshire Police stated, “These were predatory and premeditated offences that were extremely distressing for the victims.
Zaman appeared to believe he could treat women in this way without facing consequences, and he may have committed more offences if we hadn’t apprehended him when we did.
I am pleased he has now been jailed, and I hope this sentence provides some comfort to the women involved.
I also hope this outcome serves as a warning to others who think they can behave in this manner.
They can’t, and we will do whatever it takes to bring them to justice.”
