JOSHUA REID AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT IN BEDFORD
A man named Joshua Reid, involved in a disturbing incident of sexual misconduct in Bedford, has narrowly avoided a prison sentence despite his actions.Reid appeared before Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 11, to face charges related to a sexual assault that took place in Trowbridge during the summer of 2022.
He had previously pleaded guilty to the charges during a hearing held in June.
Reid, aged 26 and residing at Milton Cottages, off New Road in Bromham near Devizes, was also charged with failing to surrender to authorities.
He failed to attend the court for his sentencing hearing scheduled on July 24, which led to additional legal complications.
Despite this, the court proceedings continued, and Reid was present for the hearing on September 11.
According to prosecutor Victoria Hill, Reid’s misconduct involved physically assaulting a woman in a pub garden in Trowbridge.
Specifically, he was accused of slapping the woman’s buttocks and groping her breasts, actions that constitute serious sexual assault.
These events reportedly occurred during the summer of 2022, and the victim’s distress was a key factor in the case.
In response to the charges, the magistrates decided on a stringent community-based punishment rather than incarceration.
Reid was sentenced to a three-year community order, which includes the requirement to participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities organized by the probation service.
Additionally, he must undergo 12 days of mental health treatment with Turning Point and complete a 34-day sex offender rehabilitation program.
The court also ordered Reid to pay the victim £600 in compensation for the trauma inflicted.
A restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from making any contact with the woman for a period of one year.
Furthermore, Reid is mandated to register as a sex offender for five years, a measure intended to monitor and prevent further offenses.
In a separate but related matter, Reid was fined £50 for failing to surrender to authorities, an offense that compounded his legal issues.
His residence at Milton Cottages, near Devizes, was noted during the proceedings, highlighting his local connection to the area.
This case underscores the serious consequences of sexual misconduct and the legal system’s approach to handling such offenses, emphasizing rehabilitation and victim protection.
