JOSHUA HIBBETT SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN NOTTINGHAM
In October 2019, a man named Joshua Hibbett was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of serious crimes involving child exploitation.Hibbett, aged 22 and residing on Oakington Close in Arnold, Nottingham, was found guilty of multiple charges, including the heinous act of raping a child.
His conviction also encompassed 14 counts related to the possession, creation, and distribution of indecent images of children, highlighting the severity of his offenses.
The investigation into Hibbett’s activities was initiated through a complex international effort.
Nottinghamshire Police became involved after the FBI uncovered disturbing evidence during an investigation into a Russian file sharing website notorious for exchanging illicit images of minors.
The FBI’s probe began in February 2018 when federal authorities obtained a search and seizure warrant targeting a user who was actively encouraging others to share indecent images of children.
This individual was later identified as residing in the United States.
During the course of the FBI’s investigation, authorities discovered multiple email exchanges linked to the suspect’s online activity.
The username associated with these communications was ‘Joshua Hibbett,’ which was connected to two email addresses.
These email addresses had corresponded with the suspect in the United States, leading investigators to believe that the individual behind the account was based in the UK.
Further collaborative efforts between Lincolnshire Police and Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that Hibbett was living in Nottingham.
On December 19, 2018, Nottinghamshire Police executed a search warrant at Hibbett’s residence on Oakington Close.
During the raid, officers detained him on suspicion of creating and distributing indecent images of children.
A thorough search of the property yielded several digital storage devices, including a mobile phone and a laptop.
Subsequent analysis of these devices revealed incriminating evidence directly linked to Hibbett’s offending behavior.
The digital evidence showed that most of the images had been downloaded from the Russian website that the FBI had initially investigated.
These images were stored in a folder labeled “Secret,” which was located within Hibbett’s gaming directory.
Further examination uncovered that Hibbett had not only downloaded these images but had also created some himself and shared them on the website.
The disturbing nature of his actions was confirmed through the evidence collected.
Hibbett’s crimes culminated in his appearance at Nottingham Crown Court, where he was sentenced on Thursday, October 24, 2019.
The court handed down a 12-year prison sentence, reflecting the gravity of his offenses and the impact on the victims involved.
His conviction underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation and bring offenders to justice in Nottingham and beyond.
