December 2011 Suicide girl’s rapist freed SUICIDE rape victim’s vile attacker was freed from prison. Blind Joseph McCann, 64, was let out of Glasgow’s Barlinnie jail after serving just two-thirds of his eight-year sentence for raping the youngster, then aged 12. The girl was 18 when she hanged herself near her home in Troon, Ayrshire, in August as she was terrified McCann would come after her again once he was freed. Last night her grieving mum, said: “I can’t believe he’s out. He’s an animal and should have been locked away for ever.” It was unclear where McCann was last night after his release. The Scottish Prison Service refused to comment.
