MAN WITH CHILD RAPE CONVICTIONS SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE
Joseph Callard, a man previously convicted of child rape, has been sentenced to three years in prison after he was found guilty of engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour, along with battery, towards his partner.
The court heard he subjected his partner to physical and psychological abuse, manipulating her and controlling her every move, including her media consumption, clothing choices, and social media activity.
He isolated her from her family and friends, and on one occasion, he threatened to make her disappear, stating he had friends capable of hurting her.
The relationship involved significant financial exploitation, with the victim transferring almost £13,000 to him.
The incident culminating in violent and abusive behaviour occurred during a visit to his mother in Resolven.
Callard’s previous convictions include a lengthy prison sentence for raping a child under 13.
The judge described him as 'wholly incapable' of respecting women, and he was given a lifelong restraining order preventing contact with his victim.
