MAN FACES JAIL AFTER DOG ABUSE CONVICTION AND FURTHER VIOLATIONS
James Harold Martin, aged 28, is a man who was convicted in 2014 of aggravated animal abuse after he strangled and beat a roommate's small dog to death. He received a court sentence of 10 days in jail along with probation.
According to court records, in March 2014, he was charged with two counts of animal abuse, but he ultimately pled guilty to one.
The incident involved a miniature pinscher that was found bleeding and unresponsive at Martin's residence on Taney Street in west Eugene.
The dog succumbed shortly after being taken to an animal hospital, having suffered from blunt-force trauma and strangulation.
Recently, Martin faced potential probation revocation for allegedly owning or caring for a dog in violation of his probation conditions, as reported in a motion in January by his probation officer.
He was taken into custody on these charges and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
A court hearing is scheduled for April 4, 2016.
