JOSE SANCHEZ CAUGHT IN AYR PAEDOPHILE STING AFTER SENDING INDECENT PICS AND PLANNING MEETUP

In June 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving Jose Sanchez, a 33-year-old man from Ayr, who was caught engaging in predatory behavior targeting a girl he believed to be only 15 years old. Sanchez, a sheet metal worker employed at Prestwick Airport, became the subject of a sting operation conducted by a paedophile hunters group outside the Mercure Hotel in Ayr. The operation successfully exposed his intentions and actions, leading to his appearance in Ayr Sheriff Court for sentencing.

During the court proceedings, Sanchez, residing on Eglinton Terrace in Ayr, admitted to attempting to communicate indecently with a person he thought was a minor named ‘Chloe.’ The offenses took place over a month, from August 9 to September 9 of the previous year. The charges detailed that Sanchez not only engaged in inappropriate communication but also repeatedly sent written messages of a sexual nature along with indecent photographs of himself. These actions were carried out with the apparent purpose of seeking sexual gratification.

Further, Sanchez confessed to traveling on September 9, 2018, with the explicit intention of meeting the girl for the purpose of having sex. The court heard that Sanchez had contacted the fictitious girl via the Skout app, a social platform often used for meeting new people. The prosecution, led by Fiscal Depute Ed Sheeran, explained that Sanchez was made aware that ‘Chloe’ was underage, repeatedly referencing her age as 15 or younger in their exchanges.

Despite this knowledge, Sanchez continued to pursue the interaction, asking her provocative questions such as, “Have sex and it’s illegal and you never had sex?” He also made a sexual reference involving his tongue, further indicating his intent. The court was shown evidence that Sanchez had sent a photo of his private parts to the girl, asking if she would like to have sex with a man, clearly seeking sexual gratification from the exchange.

On September 9, a meeting was arranged between Sanchez and the decoy, ‘Chloe,’ who was part of the paedophile hunters group Wolf Pack Hunters UK. Sanchez attended the meeting at the designated location, only to be confronted by the decoy and other members of the group. The encounter was filmed live, capturing Sanchez’s reaction and actions during the confrontation. The group’s intervention was instrumental in preventing any further illegal activity.

Following the incident, police were called to arrest Sanchez. He was taken into custody at Ayr police station, where he was interviewed and made full admissions about his actions. Sanchez cooperated with authorities, was cautioned, and charged accordingly. Throughout the process, he made no attempt to deny his involvement.

In sentencing, Sheriff John Montgomery acknowledged Sanchez’s cooperation but emphasized that a custodial sentence was not deemed necessary under the circumstances. Sanchez was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid community work, which he is required to complete within six months. Additionally, he was placed under supervision for a period of six months and was registered on the Sex Offenders Register. Sanchez appeared in court with the assistance of an interpreter and was supported by family members from Spain, highlighting the international aspect of his case and the serious nature of his offenses.
