JORDAN MONAGHAN'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN BLACKBURN: TRIPLE MURDERER SENTENCED TO 48 YEARS

In a chilling series of crimes that shocked the town of Blackburn, Jordan Monaghan, aged 30, was convicted of the brutal murder of his own children, as well as the attempted murder and poisoning of others.

His heinous acts spanned over several years, culminating in a lengthy prison sentence that reflects the gravity of his offenses.

Monaghan’s first known act of violence occurred on New Year’s Day in 2013, when he smothered his 24-day-old daughter, Ruby, as she peacefully slept in a Moses basket at their home in Blackburn, Lancashire.

At the time, Ruby’s mother, Laura Gray, who was 28 years old, was upstairs sleeping, unaware of the tragedy unfolding below.

The loss of Ruby devastated the family and marked the beginning of a series of tragic events.

Eight months after Ruby’s death, Monaghan’s violence escalated further.

He took his 21-month-old son, Logan, to Waves swimming pool in Blackburn.

While they were alone in a changing room cubicle, Monaghan smothered Logan, ending his young life.

Court proceedings revealed that just a day before Logan’s death, Laura Gray had told Monaghan that their relationship was over after discovering he owed thousands of pounds in gambling debts, adding a layer of emotional turmoil to the case.

Years later, while on bail, Monaghan committed another heinous act by poisoning his then-girlfriend, 23-year-old Evie Adams.

The court heard that Monaghan used a deadly mixture of prescription drugs, including tramadol and diazepam, which he had illegally obtained on the black market.

His motive appeared to be rooted in his inability to cope with rejection from his partners.

Monaghan’s relationship with Ms.

Adams was fraught with issues, and despite a court order banning contact, he continued to pursue her.

In October 2019, Monaghan murdered Ms.

Adams by administering the lethal cocktail of drugs.

Following her death, he staged a fake suicide note, which he deliberately allowed to fall out of a picture frame as he removed a photo of the couple to place in her coffin.

This act of deception was part of his attempt to cover up the crime and avoid suspicion.

Monaghan’s criminal activities did not end there.

He was also convicted of two counts of attempted murder involving a third, unnamed child, for whom legal restrictions prevent revealing their identity.

The court heard that Monaghan’s actions were driven by his inability to face rejection and his controlling, selfish, and cruel nature.

His crimes were described by Mr.

Justice Goose during his sentencing as being triggered by volatile relationships, leading to the tragic loss of two young children and a young woman.

Following his arrest in 2018, Lancashire Police revisited the case after new information emerged, leading to further charges.

Monaghan’s actions and the subsequent court proceedings highlighted the devastating impact of his violent and manipulative behavior.

His sentencing at Preston Crown Court in December initially set a minimum term of 40 years, but after consideration by the Court of Appeal, his sentence was extended by an additional eight years, bringing his total to 48 years in prison.

Monaghan’s case has left a lasting scar on the Blackburn community, with many residents and family members still grappling with the horror of his crimes.

His actions serve as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked violence and manipulation within personal relationships.
