JORDAN MASON CAUGHT IN MERTHYR TYDFIL PAEDOPHILE STING BY CHILD PROTECTORS
In a significant case that highlights ongoing efforts to combat online child exploitation, Jordan Mason, a 23-year-old resident of Merthyr Tydfil, found himself at the center of a police sting operation after attempting to engage with what he believed was a young girl online. Mason appeared before Merthyr Crown Court to face charges related to his inappropriate online conduct, having pleaded guilty to the offence of sexual communication with a minor.According to court records, Mason initiated contact with an online profile he believed belonged to a 13-year-old girl. Over the course of their digital interaction, he sent her sexually explicit messages, clearly indicating his intent to engage in sexual activity with a minor. The messages revealed Mason’s desire not only to meet the girl but also to pressure her into bringing along a 13-year-old friend, with the aim of involving her in sexual acts. Mason’s disturbing plan was to have the girl watch and then participate in sexual intercourse with him and her friend.
Unbeknownst to Mason, the girl he was communicating with was not real. Instead, she was a decoy operated by the paedophile hunting team known as ‘Manchester Child Protectors’ (MCP). This team, dedicated to safeguarding children from online predators, collaborated with another organization called Welsh Children Protectors/KKS Wales to carry out the sting operation on Mason. The operation was part of a broader effort to identify and apprehend individuals attempting to exploit minors through digital platforms.
During the confrontation, the authorities questioned Mason about his online activities. The police were subsequently called to the scene, leading to his immediate arrest. The case was brought before Merthyr Crown Court, where Mason was sentenced to eight months in prison. However, the sentence was suspended for two years, meaning Mason would not serve time unless he committed another offence within that period.
In addition to his suspended sentence, Mason was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years. He was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which will remain in effect for the same duration. As part of his rehabilitation, Mason is required to complete a Horizon Programme and undertake 20 days of structured rehabilitation. These measures are designed to monitor and reduce the risk of reoffending, emphasizing the importance of ongoing supervision and support in cases involving sexual misconduct against minors.
