WILLIAM WALLACE FROM LEFN AND LONG EATON SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR DECADE-LONG SEXUAL ABUSE OF GIRL
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Long Eaton and Lefn, William Wallace, aged 45, has been sentenced to over 15 years in prison following a prolonged period of sexual abuse against a young girl. The disturbing case was brought to light after a lengthy investigation and court proceedings that revealed the extent of Wallace's heinous actions.Initially, Wallace dismissed the allegations as 'a load of rubbish,' showing a blatant attempt to deny or minimize the severity of his crimes. It was only two months prior to his scheduled trial at Nottingham Crown Court that he finally admitted to the charges. The court heard that the abuse spanned nearly ten years, during which Wallace exploited the innocence of his young victim, subjecting her to repeated acts of sexual assault and rape.
Judge Sarah Buckingham, presiding over the case, did not hold back in her condemnation of Wallace. She stated, 'Make no mistake, you are a paedophile. You clearly have an uncontrollable sexual attraction to children. It is patently obvious you have a sexual interest in young girls.' The judge emphasized that Wallace had used the girl as his personal plaything, manipulating her for his own gratification. The court described the offences as a 'campaign of sexual assault leading up to and including rape,' highlighting the gravity and brutality of the crimes.
Wallace was sentenced to a term of 15 years and three months in prison. The judge clarified that Wallace would not be eligible for parole until he has served at least the last year of his sentence, and he might be required to serve the full term. During the sentencing, Wallace attempted to attribute some of his actions to alcohol consumption, but Judge Buckingham dismissed this explanation as 'the most ridiculous explanation I have ever heard.' She further condemned his behaviour as 'gross and revolting,' and expressed relief that the abuse was limited to a single victim.
The court proceedings revealed that the offences took place in Long Eaton, where Wallace was living at the time. It was also disclosed that Wallace now resides in Lefn Hengoed, South Wales. The prosecution, led by Jeremy Janes, detailed how the abuse began with Wallace kissing the girl and continued until she reached the age of 18. The police investigation was initiated last year after concerns were raised.
During police interviews, Wallace reportedly told the victim not to tell anyone about what was happening, warning her that he could go to prison and implying that she would not want that. When questioned, Wallace denied the allegations, claiming he drank heavily and dismissed the accusations as fabrications. Despite his denials, a trial was scheduled, but Wallace chose to plead guilty to 14 charges just two months before the trial was set to commence.
The victim, in a statement read to the court, shared the profound impact of the abuse. She revealed that she suffers from flashbacks, has lost her confidence, and feels ashamed of what Wallace did to her. Her words underscored the lasting trauma inflicted by his actions.
In mitigation, Stephen Thomas acknowledged the seriousness of the offences but noted that Wallace was taking responsibility for his actions. He pointed out that Wallace’s plea spared the victim the trauma of a trial and demonstrated some level of remorse. As part of his sentence, Wallace was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, barred from having contact with any girl under 16, and required to disclose details of any relationships to the police. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims.
