NOTTINGHAM MAN CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES INCLUDING ONE OF A BABY
A man from Nottingham was caught possessing obscene child abuse images, including a disturbing picture of a baby, in his electronic devices.Nottingham Crown Court was told that Jordan Lane, a 24-year-old university graduate, claimed that the illicit images must have been downloaded accidentally while he was exploring the dark web and insisted he had no sexual interest in minors.
However, the judge who sentenced him did not accept this explanation.
The judge stated that Lane "needs to be honest" about why he committed these acts if he wants to receive help for rehabilitation.
It was also revealed that Lane's family, described as 'utterly dismayed,' chose not to attend the court hearing because they could not face seeing him taken to prison, expressing their fear of his incarceration.
The judge handed Lane a two-and-a-half-year community order, ordered him to attend 20 rehabilitation sessions, fined him £1,000, and imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order, as well as placing him on the sex offender register for five years.
Prosecutor Abigail Hill explained that the police visited Lane's home in Lancelyn Gardens in July 2021 and seized devices after Lane voluntarily told officers they might find images on his devices.
The analysis revealed a total of 42 images: one in the most serious Category A, seven in Category B, 19 in Category C, and 15 extreme pornographic images, some of which were animations or cartoons, including one picture of a baby aged between nought and three months.
Lane admitted to possessing these images and claimed he did not derive sexual gratification from them, maintaining that they may have been generated on the dark web.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and one count of possessing extreme pornographic images.
Court mitigation highlighted that Lane left school at 16, worked in nightclubs at 17, and later attended university.
He is now self-employed in the design industry.
The judge emphasized that Lane is a young man who generally demonstrates industriousness and has no prior convictions, but the court stressed the importance of honesty and rehabilitation in such cases.
