JORDAN GREGORY OF SHEFFIELD SENTENCED AFTER HOSTAGE AND VIOLENCE INCIDENTS INVOLVING FORMER PARTNERS

Jordan Gregory, a man from Sheffield, was sentenced after subjecting his former partner to a violent ordeal in her own home, just months after previously mistreating another ex-girlfriend. Sheffield Crown Court heard that Gregory and his then-partner, referred to as complainant one, ended their relationship in May 2023 after a brief affair. However, Gregory refused to accept the breakup and traveled to her Sheffield residence on May 20, 2023, to 'sort things out,' as detailed during a hearing on December 5, 2023.

The judge, Recorder Mark Giuliani, described the sequence of events: “Knowing she had brought the relationship to an end, you went to her home, uninvited, you barged in. She said she knew immediately that you were in a bad mood.” He added, “You were saying you wanted to sort things out…she had made it very clear that she did not want to sort things out.”

Recorder Giuliani explained that Gregory, of Emerson Crescent, Parson Cross, Sheffield, then followed complainant one into her bedroom, where she had taken her one-year-old son, and repeatedly asked her to reconcile. “You made an unfounded allegation that she had cheated on you, and demanded to check her phone,” the judge stated, noting that Gregory turned off her phone and followed her into the bedroom, shutting the door behind her and her child.

He said, “She considered that you took her phone to prevent her from calling for help, because, effectively, what you did from that point on was hold her hostage in her own home. She said: ‘What you’re holding me hostage in my own room with my son,’ and you said: ‘Yes, that’s what I’ve got to do.’”

Recorder Giuliani continued, “You sat in front of her bedroom door for three hours…she was frightened, not only for herself but also because she had her one-year-old with her…at one point, you threw her to the floor and said: ‘You’re going nowhere,’ resulting in a graze on her elbow.”

The court was told that complainant one eventually fell asleep with her son in her arms, a sign, the judge suggested, of her fear for her child’s safety. “That she fell asleep was not an indication she felt safe; rather, she still felt ‘imprisoned’ and ‘constrained’ in the room,” he explained.

The following morning, just before 11 am, complainant one woke to find Gregory asleep beside her. She tried to sneak out with her son, but he woke before she could leave. She and her child remained in the room for another two hours. Recorder Giuliani noted, “You only allowed her to leave when she told you she would not call the police.”

In a statement read in court, complainant one recounted that Gregory not only held her hostage in her own home with her child but also nearly attacked her with a knife at one point. “I’m genuinely fearful of the defendant and am convinced this will not be the last incident,” she said.
