JORDAN FLEMING FROM WISHAW SENTENCED OVER CRUELTY TO CANCER-STRICKEN DOG

In a distressing case that has shocked the local community of Wishaw, Jordan Fleming, born on November 3, 1995, and residing on Maxton Crescent, was found guilty of neglecting his pet dog, Oscar, who was suffering from cancer. Fleming, who is unemployed and has a history of criminal activity, failed to seek veterinary care for his ailing Staffordshire bull terrier, leading to tragic consequences.

Oscar was allowed to deteriorate to a state of severe emaciation, to the point where he could barely stand or walk. Witnesses and animal welfare authorities described the dog’s condition as heartbreaking, with Fleming’s neglect allowing the animal to become dangerously undernourished. The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA) intervened after concerns were raised about Oscar’s health. Unfortunately, the situation reached a point where the only humane option was to have the dog euthanized to end his suffering.

Post-mortem examinations confirmed the severity of Oscar’s condition. It was revealed that the dog had not eaten for approximately six days prior to his death. The examination showed no food in his stomach, indicating a prolonged period of starvation. The dog was also found to have a large testicular tumour and was severely dehydrated at the time of his death.

Following an investigation by the Scottish SPCA, Fleming pleaded guilty to charges of causing unnecessary suffering to Oscar by neglecting his veterinary needs and allowing him to become emaciated. Inspector Heather Lawson, who was involved in the case, expressed her sorrow over the situation. She stated, “Oscar was severely emaciated and he was barely able to walk. He weighed just 12.6kg when a dog of his breed should have been around 18-20kg. He also had a large testicular tumour and was very dehydrated.”

Inspector Lawson further explained that the veterinarian had advised that euthanasia was the most compassionate option, as Oscar’s injuries and health issues meant he would not recover. She added, “A post-mortem examination revealed that Oscar had no food present within his stomach, indicating that he had not eaten for at least 4-6 days. This was a tragic case, and we welcome the fact Fleming has been dealt with by the court. We hope he will give serious consideration about his suitability to care for other animals in the future.”

As part of his sentence, Fleming was banned from owning or caring for dogs for two years, a ban that expired in August 2018. The court also deferred further sentencing for 12 months, but no additional updates on his case have been reported since then.
