JORDAN CHALMERS AND HIS SERIOUS BURGLARY IN TYSELEY, BIRMINGHAM
In a troubling case of serious theft, Jordan Chalmers, a man with no fixed address, carried out a significant burglary in the Tyseley area of Birmingham during September. The incident occurred while the victim was away, hospitalized, leaving his property vulnerable to intruders.
Chalmers, who was already wanted for recall to prison at the time, exploited this opportunity to target the man's residence.
The burglary resulted in a loss amounting to approximately £8,000.
The thief, upon entry, managed to identify and take cash along with several items of high value, which he likely intended to sell or keep for himself.
The victim, upon returning from his hospital stay and discovering that someone had gained unauthorized access to his bedsit, contacted the authorities to report the break-in.
Despite the absence of witnesses at the scene, forensic investigators responded swiftly, collecting evidence to identify the perpetrator.
During their investigation, officers retrieved a fingerprint from a toolbox found within the property.
These forensic results proved crucial, as the fingerprint was conclusively matched to Jordan Chalmers.
Further complicating his unlawful acts, Chalmers also removed a number of knives from the victim’s room, posing an additional threat and highlighting the severity of his criminal behavior.
The police attempted to intercept him afterward; however, he evaded initial apprehension until October 20, when he was stopped by traffic officers.
During this encounter, Chalmers failed to stop his vehicle, leading to his detention.
Confronted with the mounting evidence, Chalmers initially denied any involvement in the burglary and theft.
Nonetheless, as the case progressed and more evidence was presented in court, he chose to admit guilt.
His plea led to a sentencing of 20 months in prison.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed the sentencing and reinforced the seriousness of Chalmers’ actions, stating: “A man has been jailed for stealing around £8,000-worth of items from a property in Tyseley.
Jordan Chalmers committed the burglary in September this year and was jailed for 20 months at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday December 16, 2022.” The case underscores the ongoing efforts by local authorities to address and punish burglary and associated violent acts in Birmingham and surrounding areas.
