JORDAN BRANNEY FROM BOLTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING MINOR AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In August 2019, a disturbing case involving Jordan Branney, a resident of Bolton, came to light, revealing a series of alarming sexual misconducts committed against a minor and the possession of indecent images of children.Branney, aged 28 at the time, was convicted and sentenced to 21 months in prison for his actions that spanned over a period of time and involved multiple criminal activities.
It was established that on September 6, 2016, Branney engaged in a malicious online scheme targeting a 12-year-old boy.
Using the messaging platform ooVoo, he pretended to be a young girl named Ashley Noonan, creating a profile that included a picture of a child to appear more convincing.
His intent was to lure the boy into a conversation, which quickly turned sinister.
Prosecutor Robert Elias told Bolton Crown Court that during their exchange, Branney's messages became increasingly threatening and abusive.
He falsely claimed to be a martial arts expert capable of physically assaulting the boy, attempting to intimidate him.
Branney repeatedly tried to initiate video calls with the young victim.
The boy, initially hesitant, eventually accepted one of these calls.
During the video session, the boy saw the torso of a male individual dressed in boxer shorts engaging in masturbation.
Branney had filmed himself during this act using his phone.
Recognizing the inappropriate nature of the situation, the boy wisely terminated the call.
Despite this, Branney persisted in sending sexual text messages to the boy, attempting to reassure him that no one would discover their communication.
At one point, Branney falsely claimed to be 13 years old himself.
As the messages continued, Branney's behavior grew more abusive, and he kept trying to contact the boy.
Concerned for his safety, the boy confided in his mother, who then took screenshots of the messages and contacted the police.
Law enforcement officers traced Branney to his home in Bolton.
During questioning, he admitted to masturbating in the video messages but insisted that he had only done so with adults, denying any intent to exploit minors.
Further investigations uncovered additional criminal activity.
Police executed a search at a caravan located at Ellenshaw Works on Kay Street in Darwen.
During this search, they discovered a mobile phone hidden inside a microwave.
Between August 9 and 18, 2017, Branney had downloaded a total of 159 indecent images of children onto this device.
He then deleted these images to conceal his activities.
Despite having no prior convictions, Branney faced multiple charges, including making indecent images of children and causing a child to watch a sexual act.
Branney pleaded guilty to three counts related to these offences.
