BOLTON MAN JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE AT KNIFEPOINT
Jonathan Kabala, residing on Chadwick Street in Bolton, has received a prison sentence of six years and nine months following his conviction for several serious offenses. These included attempted rape at knifepoint, kidnapping with the intention of committing a sexual assault, threatening another individual with a bladed weapon, and illegal possession of a knife.
The events unfolded early in the morning on Friday, October 2, 2020, when Kabala began to follow a woman in her twenties as she was walking along Silverwell Street to her place of work.
He then forced her into a secluded area of shrubbery near St Peter's Church, where he held a knife against her neck.
Believing she was being robbed, the woman offered money, which Kabala refused, and he proceeded to cover her mouth to silence her screams.
The woman managed to break free after hitting Kabala on the head with a travel mug she was carrying.
Her screams attracted the attention of passersby who intervened and contacted the police.
Their quick action allowed her to wrest the knife from Kabala, who then stood silently before walking away.
Police CCTV footage connected Kabala to multiple locations within Bolton on that morning, resulting in his arrest and subsequent charges.
Detective Constable Fairbrother from Greater Manchester Police commended the victim and the aiding passersby for their bravery, highlighting how crucial their intervention was in preventing serious injury.
The court pronounced Kabala guilty of the charges, and he was subsequently sentenced.
