CHESTERFIELD MAN JONATHAN JOWLE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN DERBYSHIRE
In August of the previous year, a disturbing incident unfolded inside a flat in Derbyshire involving Jonathan Jowle, a man from Chesterfield, who committed a heinous sexual assault against a young girl aged just 13. The assault occurred after the two had spent time together watching an Austin Powers film, an activity that initially seemed innocent but quickly took a dark turn.According to court reports, the victim found herself alone with Jowle in the flat when she expressed feelings of tiredness. Jowle, then 27 years old, suggested that she could rest in his bed, which she agreed to. However, shortly afterward, he entered the room and made an unsettling remark, saying, “I think you should take your trousers off.”
The court was told that the girl responded with hesitation, saying, “I don’t think so,” but Jowle persisted in his demands. He proceeded to pull down her trousers and underwear, despite her protests. The court heard that he then forced her into having unprotected sex, an ordeal that lasted approximately six minutes. This act of abuse was described as a gross violation of her innocence and trust.
Following the attack, the girl was deeply distressed and later confided in her family about what had transpired. Her disclosure led to police involvement, and subsequent investigations uncovered evidence linking Jowle to the crime. Fingerprints belonging to him were found on the DVD case of the Austin Powers film they had watched, and DNA evidence was recovered from the girl’s clothing, confirming his presence at the scene.
Jowle, who was residing on Central Avenue, Boythorpe, Chesterfield at the time, appeared via video link from prison during the court proceedings. He pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child. It was also revealed that he has a lengthy criminal history, with 19 convictions spanning 28 offences, none of which were related to sexual crimes prior to this incident.
Previously, Jowle had been sentenced to 11 years in prison for grievous bodily harm and assault. However, in light of the recent offence, Derby Crown Court increased his sentence by an additional 28 months. This extension will run consecutively after his current sentence at HMP Nottingham.
Judge Peter Cooke emphasized the severity of the crime, noting the significant disparity in age between Jowle and his young victim. He stated, “You took advantage of the situation that arose, and this is a situation where you are already serving a long sentence for an unrelated matter. I have to bear in mind the totality of the sentences.” The judge highlighted the aggravating factors, including the unprotected nature of the sexual act and the vulnerability of the young girl involved.
Overall, the case underscores the grave nature of the offense and the justice system’s response to protect minors from such predatory behavior, with Jowle now facing a substantial extension to his incarceration for this reprehensible act.
