NOTTINGHAM MAN SENTENCED FOR SENDING SEXUAL MESSAGES TO MINOR
A sweet shop worker named Jonathan Barker, aged 23, from Mansfield Road, Daybook, was sentenced for sending sexual messages to a 14-year-old girl.
Despite repeated police warnings and warnings from her parents, Barker continued to contact the girl, sending hundreds of messages of a sexual nature through Snapchat, where messages are deleted instantly.
Her parents tracked their daughter's phone and found messages of a sexual nature and confirmed Barker's contact, although he claimed he did not know her age.
Barker admitted to the contact but had blocked her.
The police had warned him not to contact the girl again, but the messages persisted.
Barker appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on August 9, where he was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 40 rehabilitation activity days and 80 hours of unpaid work.
He is now on the sex offenders' register for 10 years and has been given a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
A restraining order was also put in place, prohibiting him from contacting the girl, whose identity is protected by law.
The judge described his contact as persistent and not sporadic and noted that his behaviour was shameful.
Barker was initially employed at Frankie & Benny's, which has since closed, and is currently working at Currys.
