Jonathan Assar, 27, found himself in the dock after a child porn investigation by Brazilian police uncovered he had been using a shared online network for two years, from 2007. Assar, of Wickham Bishops Road, Hatfield Peverel, had 700 indecent images of children on his home computer, Chelmsford Crown Court was told. The computer’s contents included 694 photographs and 26 videos He admitted 20 child porn offences yesterday. Judge Anthony Goldstaub QC said the low level of seriousness of most of the items enabled him to avoid passing a prison sentence. He added: “It was the Brazilian police who discovered your involvement in this filth, informed colleagues in Essex and they raided your premises. “A meticulous investigation was carried out. “If it wasn’t for people downloading images, there wouldn’t be people making them.” Assar was given a three-year community order with a condition he attend a sex offenders programme and pay £180 costs. He was also ordered to be on the sex offenders register for five years. Emma Nash, mitigating, said: “He’s got genuine remorse and shame. He felt wretched looking at them. He didn’t get any sexual gratification – he doesn’t know why he didn’t delete them.”
