NOTTINGHAM PENSIONER JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TEEN
A Nottingham pensioner has been sentenced to prison after committing an 'opportunistic and predatory' sexual assault against a teenage girl.According to police, 70-year-old John Yates assaulted the victim in May 2021.
The incident came to light several months later when the police were made aware of it.
During police questioning, Yates chose to remain silent, replying with 'no-comment' to all questions.
He later pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault.
At Nottingham Crown Court on August 19, he was sentenced to five years and four months in prison.
Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register and is subject to a court ban that will prevent him from being near girls under 16 once released.
Detective Constable Dan Blackham of Nottinghamshire Police stated: “This was an opportunistic and predatory assault that unsurprisingly had a profound impact on the victim.
She was initially reluctant to come forward or tell anyone about what had happened, but her determination to seek justice is admirable.”
