JOHN SUTHERLAND'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN GLASGOW AND SKEGNESS REVEALED

In a series of disturbing criminal cases spanning several decades, John Sutherland, a man with a troubling history of sexual offenses against young females, has been subjected to multiple convictions and lengthy prison sentences. His crimes, committed in Glasgow and Skegness, have left a trail of devastation and have prompted calls for stricter laws to protect children from repeat offenders.

In April 2013, Sutherland, aged 39 at the time, was sentenced to 11 years in prison after being convicted of heinous sexual offenses involving two young girls. The court heard that he had previously been found guilty of raping one girl and attempting to assault another. The incidents in question took place in Glasgow’s south side during the late 1980s and 1990s, with the victim of the rape being approximately 12 years old at the time.

During the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Rita Rae QC emphasized the severity of Sutherland’s actions, describing him as a significant risk to children. She acknowledged the bravery of the young women who testified against him, noting that their testimonies had a profound and devastating impact on their lives. The judge also pointed out that Sutherland showed no remorse for his crimes, and she recounted an incident where he shouted at his victims in court after his conviction.

Further details revealed that Sutherland, a former amateur puppeteer, had a long-standing pattern of preying on young females. His criminal record included previous convictions, such as a 12-month jail sentence in 2001 for indecent assault on a girl under 14, and a 21-month sentence in 2006 at Hull Crown Court, where he was also placed on the sex offenders register for ten years. Additionally, he had been jailed indefinitely in 2007 after being caught in Skegness, Lincolnshire, where he was secretly videotaped molesting two young girls. The footage showed him lifting an eight-year-old girl into a tree with his hand up her skirt and groping another girl in a similar manner.

The Skegness case drew significant public outrage, with parents in the community expressing their horror as Sutherland was arrested following the covert recordings. The prosecution revealed that Sutherland had previously served a 12-month sentence in July 2001 for indecent assault and had been given a suspended sentence just weeks before his latest offenses for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. Judge John Machin at Lincoln Crown Court described Sutherland as a “significant risk to the public,” emphasizing the danger he posed to children.

Throughout his criminal history, Sutherland’s actions have been characterized by a disturbing pattern of sexual misconduct against minors, leading to multiple incarcerations and ongoing legal proceedings. His case has sparked discussions about the adequacy of existing laws and the need for more stringent measures to prevent convicted sex offenders from reoffending and harming more children. Sutherland’s sentencing is scheduled for next month, and the community remains deeply concerned about the safety of its young residents.
