MORGAN NEIL AND CHRISTOPHER BEEVERS FROM GLASGOW FOUND GUILTY OF CHILD NEGLECT IN FILTHY SHETTLESTON HOME

A distressing case involving a couple from Glasgow, Christopher Beevers, aged 33, and Morgan Neil, aged 26, has culminated in their conviction for neglecting and endangering two young children. The incident took place within their residence located in the Shettleston area of Glasgow, where authorities uncovered a scene of severe neglect and unsanitary living conditions that posed a significant threat to the well-being of the children involved.

Police officers were compelled to force their way into the property after an initial smell of urine alerted them to the possibility of neglect. Upon entry, they encountered a home in a deplorable state—urine was found on the floors, and the environment was characterized by disorder and filth. Soggy mattresses, mold growth on walls and windows, and an accumulation of rubbish and dirty laundry painted a grim picture of neglect. Despite these conditions, the two children, a six-year-old and a three-year-old, appeared to be physically safe and in relatively good health during initial assessments.

During the court proceedings, Beevers attempted to justify the state of the home by claiming that the mess was due to their dog being unwell. However, law enforcement officials and social workers expressed their belief that the neglect had persisted over a period of time, with the environment remaining unclean and hazardous for the children. The court was informed that the children’s living conditions included a bathroom contaminated with black mold and bedding that was unclean and blackened, further emphasizing the extent of the neglect.

Both Beevers and Neil pleaded guilty to charges of wilful neglect, which spanned from September 9 to October 4, 2024. As part of their sentencing, Beevers was ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid community work and was placed under 18 months of supervision. Neil, on the other hand, was given a deferred sentence structured to monitor his compliance, with a court appearance scheduled for August to review his progress.

The court acknowledged that the environment in which the children were kept was dangerous, citing the presence of insects, black mold, and blackened bedding as evidence of long-term neglect. Nevertheless, recent assessments indicated that the children themselves appeared to be safe at present, despite the conditions they had endured. The case highlights the ongoing concerns about child welfare and the importance of timely intervention in cases of severe neglect in Glasgow’s Shettleston area.
