JOHN MACKTHOMSON FROM WOLVERHAMPTON SENTENCED FOR ONLINE CHILD GROOMING IN BIRMINGHAM
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online predators, John Mackthomson, aged 49, of Wolverhampton, was brought before Birmingham Crown Court in July 2018 to face serious charges related to his online conduct.Mackthomson pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a minor and attempting to incite a child to participate in sexual activities, actions that have shocked the local community and raised concerns about online safety.
The court was informed that Mackthomson had initiated contact with an online profile he believed belonged to a young girl attending school.
Over a period of four months, he persistently sent sexually explicit messages, attempting to establish a sexual relationship with what he thought was a minor.
As the conversations progressed, his messages revealed a disturbing fixation on bestiality, and he even asked the supposed child to involve her siblings in sexual acts, demonstrating a gross perversion and a complete disregard for the law and moral boundaries.
The investigation into Mackthomson’s online activities was conducted by the paedophile hunting team known as ‘One Reason’.
This team successfully located him at his residence in Wolverhampton and subsequently questioned him about his internet interactions.
During the questioning, the team revealed that the individual he had been communicating with was not a child but an adult woman, who was part of an online child protection initiative called ‘Nations Kid’s First’.
Following the confrontation, Mackthomson was arrested and the evidence collected by the team was handed over to the authorities.
The case was prosecuted in Birmingham, where the court sentenced him to a custodial term of 27 months.
Additionally, the judge ordered Mackthomson to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, emphasizing the severity of his actions and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the efforts of online safety teams in combating child exploitation and grooming.
It also serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in digital spaces and the need for continued awareness and preventative measures to protect vulnerable individuals from predators like John Mackthomson.
