JOHN KENDAL FROM BRADFORD JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN BOWLING
In April 2013, a man named John Kendal, aged 33, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after committing serious sexual offences against a young girl in Bradford.Kendal, who resides at Douglas Towers in the Bowling area of Bradford, engaged in a disturbing pattern of inappropriate behavior towards a 13-year-old girl, which included indecent exposure and persistent sexual messaging.
According to court proceedings, Kendal developed what was described as a 'very unhealthy and indecent interest' in the young girl.
Evidence presented during the trial revealed that he had made inappropriate comments about her physical appearance, specifically complimenting her on her bottom.
The situation escalated when Kendal made an indecent phone call to her, which was overheard by members of her family, further traumatizing the victim.
Kendal pleaded guilty to two charges related to causing or inciting sexual activity with a child.
Additionally, a jury at Bradford Crown Court convicted him of one similar offence and an allegation of engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
The court heard from prosecutor David McGonigal that the victim now harbors strong feelings of hatred towards Kendal.
She expressed feelings of ugliness and insecurity, and she has become reluctant to socialize with boys, indicating the profound psychological impact of his actions.
Throughout the proceedings, Kendal’s legal representative, Ashok Khullar, highlighted that Kendal was the sole carer for his son, emphasizing that a custodial sentence would significantly affect the child's well-being.
It was noted that Kendal had no prior convictions related to sexual offences, which was considered during sentencing.
Judge Roger Thomas QC, the Recorder of Bradford, addressed the court and condemned Kendal’s conduct, describing his attitude towards the girl as 'very unhealthy.' The judge detailed the gravity of Kendal’s actions, including his indecent exposure in the girl’s bedroom during a visit to her home.
Furthermore, Kendal had persistently sent inappropriate text messages and made indecent suggestions during a phone call, which was listened to by the girl’s family members.
The judge pointed out that Kendal only admitted to the phone call allegation because the jury could have heard the recording in court, and he had previously denied two of the offences, forcing the girl to testify.
Judge Thomas emphasized the seriousness of these sexual offences against a young girl, noting the lasting effects such abuse can have.
The court ordered Kendal to sign the sex offenders’ register for life, barring him from ever contacting his victim.
Additionally, he is prohibited from working with children or inviting them into his home without supervision, reflecting the court’s concern for public safety and the protection of vulnerable minors.
