JOHN HUMPHREYS FROM WREXHAM SHOCKS COURT WITH SEX OFFENSES AND ABUSE INCIDENTS
In February 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving John Humphreys, a resident of Wrexham, whose repeated misconduct and blatant disregard for court orders drew significant attention from the legal system and the local community alike.Humphreys, aged 58, became notorious for his persistent inappropriate behavior, which included breaching a court-issued restraining order designed to protect a single mother from his unwanted advances.
Despite the legal restrictions, he approached her on multiple occasions, and on one particularly alarming instance, she observed him attempting to hide behind a tree outside her residence.
When she looked up at her window, she saw that Humphreys had his trousers around his knees, exposing himself in a clear act of sexual misconduct.
This behavior was witnessed by the victim in September, and she reported feeling extremely vulnerable and frightened as a result.
Humphreys was arrested following this incident but chose not to comment during police interviews.
The victim later provided a heartfelt victim impact statement, describing how her sense of safety had been severely compromised.
She expressed relief that the court had issued a restraining order, which temporarily allowed her to feel some peace of mind.
However, Humphreys’ continued offending shattered that sense of security, forcing her to live in constant fear.
She emphasized that her life had been disrupted, and her emotional well-being severely affected by his actions.
Prior to these events, Humphreys had a long history of criminal behavior, with 18 previous convictions, including offenses against the same victim.
His criminal record included assaults and acts of exposure, highlighting a pattern of troubling conduct.
His defense lawyer, Stephen Edwards, explained that Humphreys suffered from intellectual limitations and had experienced a difficult upbringing, being one of nine children who had been in care as a child.
It was also noted that he had a ten-year hiatus from offending while caring for his mother, who passed away in 2015, leaving him without his primary support network.
Edwards described Humphreys as a lonely and sad individual who craved female attention but lacked the social skills to form appropriate relationships.
During the court proceedings at Mold Crown Court, Humphreys displayed defiance and hostility.
He shouted and swore in the dock before being taken to the cells, claiming that the allegations against him were “all a load of lies.” Judge Niclas Parry, presiding over the case, acknowledged Humphreys’ vulnerabilities but made it clear that his behavior was unacceptable.
The judge stated that he would have taken action for contempt of court if not for Humphreys’ mental state.
Humphreys was convicted of breaching the restraining order, sexual assault, and exposure.
The court sentenced him to 16 months in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for ten years.
Despite the conviction, Humphreys continued to deny the allegations, shaking his head in the dock and maintaining his innocence, as he had during the trial.
The judge expressed concern over the case, emphasizing the danger posed by Humphreys’ repeated targeting of a vulnerable woman who was raising her daughter under challenging circumstances.
The court’s decision underscored the seriousness of his offenses and the need to protect the community from further harm.
