August 2000 Video rapist sent to prison for ten years A RAPIST who videoed his attack on a teenage girl was jailed for ten years yesterday. The jury, who watched the 20-minute tape filmed in John Hind’s living room, rejected his claim that the 16-year-old consented to have sex. Hind, 54, threatened to show the tape to her father after she fled to a hostel in a bid to escape his clutches, said prosecutor Peter Johnson. But she went to the police. She had been sexually abused years before by an uncle, who was later jailed, Teesside Crown Court was told. Judge David Bryant told 54-year-old Hind: “I suppose that made you think that she was easy prey for your lusts?” Hind, of Lindisfarne, Peterlee, County Durham, was found guilty of three charges of rape and two of indecent assault. He was also put on the Sex Offender’s Register for life. Before he was led away, Hind told the judge: “I am innocent of these offences.”
