JOHN HIND FROM COUNTY DURHAM SENTENCED FOR VIDEO RAPE IN TEESSIDE
In a high-profile case that has shocked the community, John Hind, a 54-year-old resident of Lindisfarne, Peterlee, County Durham, was sentenced to ten years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses. The incident involved the recording of a brutal attack on a 16-year-old girl, which was played in court to demonstrate the severity of his crimes.
During the trial at Teesside Crown Court, the jury was shown a 20-minute video footage captured in Hind's own living room.
The footage depicted the assault, and despite Hind's claims that the girl had consented to the sexual acts, the jury unanimously rejected his defense.
The prosecution, led by Peter Johnson, emphasized that Hind had threatened to show the tape to the girl’s father after she managed to escape from his control by fleeing to a nearby hostel.
This act of intimidation was part of the evidence that contributed to his conviction.
The court heard that the girl had previously endured sexual abuse at the hands of her uncle, who was later incarcerated for his crimes.
This background added a layer of complexity and tragedy to the case, highlighting the vulnerability of the victim and the predatory nature of Hind’s actions.
Judge David Bryant delivered the sentence, expressing his condemnation of Hind’s conduct.
He remarked, “I suppose that made you think that she was easy prey for your lusts?” The judge found Hind guilty on three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault, and he was also ordered to be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
As Hind was led away from the courtroom, he maintained his innocence, telling the judge, “I am innocent of these offences.” His words echoed in the courtroom, but the verdict and sentence reflected the gravity of his crimes and the court’s stance on protecting victims from such heinous acts.
