JOHN FAIRHURST AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN BOLTON
A man identified as John Fairhurst has been sentenced to over twenty years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving four young children in Bolton.The case, which drew significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and the bravery of the victims, culminated in a lengthy trial at Bolton Crown Court.
Fairhurst, aged 30 and residing on Dudley Avenue in Tonge Moor, Bolton, was found guilty on 17 counts related to sexual misconduct.
The court heard that over a period of several years, Fairhurst exploited his victims, who were children at the time, engaging in a series of abhorrent acts.
These included sending them intimate photographs and requesting that they participate in degrading acts, actions that caused profound trauma to the young victims.
The court was informed that Fairhurst’s behavior became increasingly aggressive, and he took advantage of the victims’ trust and vulnerability.
It was only after the victims displayed remarkable courage and spoke out that law enforcement was able to apprehend him.
His arrest took place in October 2022, marking the beginning of a thorough investigation.
Following his conviction, Fairhurst was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Additionally, he will serve a further six years on licence after his release.
The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order to prevent any future contact with the victims or further harm.
Detective Constable Phillipa Fairclough of Greater Manchester Police’s Bolton district expressed her gratitude to the victims, emphasizing their bravery in coming forward.
She stated, “Firstly, I want to thank the victims in this case for their incredible bravery in coming forward and helping us with the investigation into Fairhurst’s crimes.
Fairhurst’s acts over several years were abhorrent and I am glad that he is now behind bars.
I hope that the sentence is able to bring some comfort to his victims.” She further highlighted the complexity and emotional difficulty of the investigation, reaffirming the police’s commitment to pursuing justice for victims of sexual abuse.
Detective Sergeant Kayleigh Wiggins, who led the investigation, also extended her thanks to the victims and praised the child protection team at Bolton for their dedication and hard work throughout the case.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the bravery of victims in confronting abuse, and it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for robust child protection measures in Bolton and beyond.
