JOHN DUNNIGAN FROM BLACKBURN CAUGHT TRYING TO MEET 15-YEAR-OLD BOY IN NEWCASTLE BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS

In a disturbing case that highlights the ongoing efforts to combat online child exploitation, 70-year-old John Dunnigan from Blackburn was recently convicted and sentenced to three and a half years in prison for attempting to meet a minor for sexual activity.

The incident unfolded in Newcastle, where Dunnigan had traveled with the intent of meeting a 15-year-old boy named 'Ben', with whom he had been engaging in explicit online conversations.

According to court reports, Dunnigan had brought along items such as baby oil and new underwear, which he intended to use during the meeting.

He had also carried a handwritten note containing the supposed details of the underage boy.

The pensioner had been communicating with 'Ben' through gay chat platforms, during which he sent explicit images and messages, including a live-streamed video of himself performing a sex act.

In the video, Dunnigan expressed his desire to have sex with the boy, saying, 'I really want to have sex with you Ben.' However, the meeting was thwarted by the efforts of Dark Justice, a two-man organization dedicated to catching online predators.

The group had set up a fake profile on the same platform Dunnigan was using, making it clear that the profile belonged to an underage individual.

Their goal was to identify and apprehend adults seeking to engage in sexual activities with minors.

When Dunnigan arrived at the designated meeting point in December, expecting to meet 'Ben', members of Dark Justice, accompanied by police officers, were waiting for him.

During a search of his turquoise Suzuki vehicle, authorities discovered the aforementioned items: baby oil, a packet of underwear, and the handwritten note with 'Ben's' details.

Dunnigan admitted to officers that he was planning to meet a 16-year-old, intending to take him to McDonald's for a milkshake before saying goodbye.

Following his arrest, Dunnigan pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming, breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

Judge Penny Moreland sentenced him to three and a half years in prison, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions.

She remarked, 'The items found in your car clearly indicate what you had in mind for that meeting, but as it transpired, the profile was a false profile put up by an adult in order to identify people, like you, interested in making contact, for sexual purposes, with children.' This case underscores the importance of vigilant online monitoring and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and community groups to protect minors from exploitation.
