JOHN DAINTY FROM DARLINGTON CAUGHT IN SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCES AT STOCKTON'S SPLASH POOL
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the local community, John Dainty, a man with a disturbing history of sexual misconduct, has been sentenced to over a decade in prison for a series of heinous offences committed in and around Darlington and Stockton. The court heard that Dainty, aged 42, systematically targeted a young boy over a three-year period from 2000 to 2003, engaging in repeated sexual abuse.
During the trial, it was revealed that Dainty had used drugs at one point in an attempt to coerce the young victim into performing sexual acts, further highlighting the predatory nature of his actions.
Adding to the gravity of his crimes, Dainty was also caught engaging in voyeuristic activities at the Splash swimming pool in Stockton.
He used a mobile phone and a flexible cable camera to secretly film boys as they changed in the pool’s changing rooms.
These disturbing incidents were uncovered during police investigations, which followed reports from a vigilant member of the public who noticed suspicious activity at the leisure centre.
The court was informed that Dainty faced a total of 26 charges, including sexual assault, possession of indecent images of children, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and voyeurism.
Prosecutor Shaun Dodds detailed that Dainty was responsible for eight charges related to the abuse of the young boy, who was only seven years old when the abuse began.
The victim, now 26, only came forward after confiding in a member of the Guardians of the North, a paedophile hunting group, which led to the investigation and subsequent charges.
In a heartfelt victim impact statement, the survivor described the lasting trauma inflicted by Dainty’s actions.
He explained, “It is always on my mind and there are times I end up breaking down, watching television and similar things happening on the screen affect me.
I remember breaking down in front of my girlfriend watching something, and it bringing it all back.
What he did to me as a child is always there, what he did changed me and affected my moods.” Regarding the voyeurism charges, Mr.
Dodds explained that Dainty was caught in the act of filming children in the pool’s changing rooms by a member of the public.
When Dainty was arrested, authorities discovered nearly 300 indecent images of young children and seven videos stored on his devices.
It was also revealed that Dainty had a prior conviction for sexual assault dating back to 1998 when he was living in Wales.
John Dainty, who resides on Stanhope Road North in Darlington, pleaded guilty to all the charges brought against him.
Judge Johnathan Carroll described him as a “persistent” offender and sentenced him to a total of ten years and nine months in prison.
Additionally, Dainty was given an extended licence period of two years and nine months, reflecting the severity and ongoing nature of his offending.
The case underscores the importance of vigilance and community efforts in safeguarding children from predators like Dainty, whose actions have left a lasting scar on his victims and the community at large.
