JOHN CORNFORTH FROM MACCLESFIELD SLAMMED FOR DISGUSTING OFFER TO YOUNG GIRL

In December 2016, a disturbing case unfolded involving John Robert Cornforth, a 59-year-old resident of Byron Street, Macclesfield, who was found guilty of heinous misconduct towards a young girl. The court heard that Cornforth made a highly inappropriate and lewd proposition to the girl, offering her money in exchange for her to clean his flat topless. This shocking incident was not only communicated verbally but was also repeated through text messages, which left the victim feeling extremely distressed and upset.

The brave young girl confided in her mother about the distressing encounter, prompting her mother to contact the police authorities. The case was brought before Warrington Crown Court, where Cornforth faced serious charges. He pleaded guilty to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, a crime that underscores the severity of his actions.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Tina Langdale did not hold back her condemnation of Cornforth’s behavior. She described his conduct as “absolutely disgusting” and emphasized the gravity of exploiting a vulnerable young girl. The judge pointed out that the victim was a young girl who was left extremely distressed by Cornforth’s actions, which appeared to be motivated by his own perverted desires.

Judge Langdale highlighted the disturbing nature of the case, stating, “You set out to exploit that child. For your titillation and enjoyment, you offered £40 to clean your flat topless. That is extremely serious.” She further noted that the victim was fortunate to have a supportive mother, who she trusted enough to confide in, which ultimately led to the police investigation.

Addressing Cornforth directly, the judge condemned his age disparity and his attempt to look at the girl’s breasts, calling his behavior “absolutely disgusting.” She emphasized that such conduct was not only morally wrong but also legally reprehensible, given the significant age difference and the nature of the proposition.

Prosecutor John Oates detailed the case, revealing that Cornforth had explicitly told the girl he would pay her £40 to clean his flat topless and had reiterated this request via text message. The girl, overwhelmed and upset, sought her mother’s help and felt guilty, believing she might be at fault. When questioned by police, Cornforth admitted that his actions were “stupid,” but that did little to mitigate the seriousness of his misconduct.

In addition to the prison sentence, Cornforth was ordered to undertake a 60-day rehabilitation activity and complete a sex offenders treatment programme. The court also imposed a three-month curfew, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and mandated that he register as a sex offender for the next ten years. Judge Langdale warned Cornforth that any breach of these conditions would result in immediate imprisonment, underscoring the court’s stance on protecting vulnerable individuals from such predatory behavior.
