July 2012 Ormesby man handed jail term over images of abuse THOUSANDS of images of child abuse were found on the computers of a man who said he was glad when police finally caught him. John Blowers, 47, said he tried unsuccessfully to break a habit of downloading indecent pictures of children over a seven-year period. His online activities were only stopped by a police search at his home on November 10 last year, Teesside Crown court heard. Officers found 4,045 illegal images of children on three desktop computers, a laptop and DVDs, said prosecutor Sue Jacobs. The collection, showing children aged between five and 14, included 176 pictures at the most serious category in law. Most were at the least serious level. It was amassed since March 2004, though less than a tenth of the pictures were accessible to the computer user by the time of the police search. Blowers, of Birchtree Close, Ormesby, Middlesbrough, handed himself in and made a full confession to police, saying he got a kick out of the images.
