JOHN BLANCHARD FROM MIDDLESBROUGH CAUGHT IN SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY SCANDAL
In April 2013, a disturbing case emerged involving John Blanchard, a 41-year-old warehouse worker from Middlesbrough, who was found to have developed a severe addiction to extreme pornography and child abuse images. The court heard that Blanchard had spent countless hours each night browsing the internet, gradually becoming desensitised to increasingly depraved and illegal content.
During a search of his computer, authorities uncovered a horrifying collection of images and videos.
Among the most disturbing were photographs of naked children as young as eight years old, alongside numerous videos depicting adults engaging in sexual acts with animals.
These images are classified by law enforcement as extreme pornography, highlighting the severity of the material Blanchard was viewing.
Blanchard appeared before Teesside Crown Court, where he was spared immediate imprisonment after the judge learned that he had no prior criminal record.
Judge Peter Armstrong described him as a man leading an isolated life, who used the internet primarily for entertainment.
The judge emphasized that Blanchard’s actions were driven by curiosity and a gradual escalation in the type of content he sought.
He was sentenced to a six-month jail term, suspended for a period of supervision, and was mandated to attend a sex offender treatment program.
Additionally, Blanchard was ordered to pay costs amounting to £450, and he was required to register as a sex offender.
A strict ban was also imposed, prohibiting him from working with children in any capacity.
Judge Armstrong remarked, “Fortunately, you did not distribute the child images, or you would have faced immediate imprisonment.
The impression I have is that you led an isolated life, using the internet for entertainment, and out of curiosity, you came across these images.
Over time, you became hooked, watching them for hours on end.” During the hearing, defense lawyer Dan Cordey explained that Blanchard’s viewing habits had escalated from regular adult pornography to more serious and illegal content, often during the early hours of the morning.
Mr.
Cordey stated, “He would look at these images out of curiosity, and he admits that he became desensitised.
Sometimes, he would spend three or four hours at a time viewing these materials, to the point where he struggled to distinguish what was acceptable and what was not.” Blanchard, who resides on Sycamore Crescent in Middlesbrough, admitted to charges of making and possessing indecent images of children, as well as possessing extreme and prohibited pornography.
The police had previously searched his home, which he shared with his parents, after receiving information that his computer was accessing illegal websites.
This case highlights the dangers of internet addiction and the serious legal consequences associated with viewing and possessing such illegal content.
