JOHN ASTLEY FROM BOLTON SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN HAMPSHIRE AND SEXTING CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, John Astley, a 34-year-old man from Wyndham Avenue in Daubhill, Bolton, has been sentenced to ten years in prison after being convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl he had groomed online. The incident highlights the dangers of online predators and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children.
According to court proceedings, Astley initiated contact with his young victim via the internet in January.
Over the following weeks, he built a relationship with her, engaging in conversations that gradually led to more sinister intentions.
The court was told that Astley and the girl met on two occasions in Sunderland, further entrenching the grooming process.
The situation escalated when, on March 8, Astley traveled from Bolton to West Sussex, specifically to meet the girl late at night.
The meeting took place in a retail car park located in Havant, Hampshire.
It was there that Astley committed the heinous act of raping the young girl.
The crime was discovered shortly after, when the girl’s family realized she was missing and contacted the police.
As authorities responded to the incident, Astley was arrested nearby.
During the subsequent investigation, police examined his mobile phone and uncovered indecent images of the victim, adding to the severity of his offenses.
Following his arrest, Astley was charged and later pleaded guilty to the charges of rape and causing a child to engage in pornography.
His guilty plea was entered on a Monday, and the court sentenced him to a decade behind bars.
In addition to his prison sentence, Astley was ordered to register as a sex offender and was subjected to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order.
This order is designed to restrict his access to children and ensure ongoing supervision even after his release from prison.
Detective Constable David Midgley commented on the case, stating, “This was a particularly nasty case, with Astley taking advantage of a young, vulnerable girl.
The sentence imposed reflects the tough stance the justice system takes against people who commit offences against those that are vulnerable.
Even when Astley is released from prison, the sexual offences prevention order imposed by the court will ensure he remains closely supervised.” Overall, this case underscores the importance of vigilance and protective measures for children in the digital age, as well as the justice system’s commitment to punishing those who exploit minors for their own depraved purposes.
