JERZY GURAJCZYK BRADFORD SEX OFFENDER AVOIDS PRISON AFTER GUILTY VERDICT
In Bradford, a disturbing incident involving Jerzy Gurajczyk, a 51-year-old man, has garnered significant attention from local authorities and the community alike.Gurajczyk was found guilty by a jury of committing a sexual assault against a 14-year-old schoolgirl, an act that took place in broad daylight on Valentine’s Day of the previous year.
According to court proceedings, the young girl was on her way to meet friends for ice skating when the incident occurred.
She was standing at the junction of Manor Row and Upper Piccadilly, waiting at a pelican crossing in the city center.
It was during this moment that Gurajczyk approached her from behind and indecently assaulted her by putting his hand up her school uniform skirt as she waited for the traffic light to change.
The assault was captured on CCTV footage, which played a crucial role in the trial.
The footage clearly showed Gurajczyk engaging in the disgraceful act during daylight hours.
The jury, after less than an hour of deliberation, unanimously convicted him of the offence.
During the trial, prosecutor Tim Capstick highlighted the defendant’s distinctive two-tone jacket, which he was wearing at the time of the assault.
Five days following the incident, Gurajczyk was apprehended by police.
A police community support officer recognized him in the city center, wearing the same jacket seen in the CCTV footage.
This identification led to his arrest and subsequent questioning.
Gurajczyk maintained his innocence throughout the process, claiming he was in Bradford city center at the time but insisting he was not responsible for the assault.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges of sexual assault.
His legal representative, solicitor advocate Anne-Marie Hutton, acknowledged that the incident was “very unpleasant,” but emphasized that Gurajczyk had no prior convictions apart from a single shoplifting offence committed several years earlier.
She also pointed out that her client continued to deny any involvement in the assault.
During sentencing, Judge David Hatton QC described the incident as “disgraceful and disgusting,” noting the significant emotional distress caused to the girl and her mother.
The judge expressed his bewilderment over Gurajczyk’s behavior but clarified that his conduct was unacceptable and would not be tolerated.
Despite the severity of the act, the judge did not consider Gurajczyk to pose a risk to the public at large.
In light of this, the judge sentenced Gurajczyk to a community order for 12 months, which includes supervision by the probation service and 200 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, Gurajczyk is subject to an electronically monitored three-month curfew from 9 pm to 7 am.
He is also required to sign the sex offender register for a period of five years, reflecting the seriousness of his conviction and the need for ongoing monitoring.
Earlier, in January 2015, Gurajczyk faced similar allegations when he was convicted of sexually assaulting a schoolgirl in Bradford.
The case had also involved CCTV evidence and a swift jury verdict, with Gurajczyk again denying responsibility.
The court had warned him that he could face imprisonment, but ultimately, the sentence was limited to a community order, with the judge emphasizing the importance of monitoring his conduct and ensuring public safety.
