Mills pounced on the teenage babysitter and tried to kiss her despite the fact she was giving the tot it’s bottle. When she tried to push him off he tightened his hands around her throat then flung her to the floor, even though she still had the baby in her arms. As the terrified teenager tried to flee to safety, Mills dragged her into a passageway, kneeled on her stomach and choked her again, Newcastle Crown Court heard. The girl eventually blacked out and woke to find her trousers and underwear around her ankles and the baby on the floor crying, Katherine Dunn, prosecuting told the court. A court heard the teenager made a harrow 999 call and was convinced Mills was going to kill her. Now dangerous Mills, who once attacked three members of his own family with a knife, has been jailed at Newcastle Crown Court for six years and eight months. His victim has been left deeply traumatised by the attack and told in a victim impact statement read to the court how it has affected her. She said: “I think about it every day, I often think about what I could have done to change things. I get terrified someone else will assault me like he did.” The teenager was babysitting at a house in Newcastle when Mills turned up and attacked her on the evening of October 27 last year. Despite the fact she was giving the baby a bottle, he suddenly jumped on her, kissed her and put his hand down her trousers. She had bruising to her neck, shoulder, arm, face and inside her eyelids, caused by the forceful strangulation. She also had grazes to her lips and a carpet burn on her back. Mills, 27, of Briarside, Westerhope, was originally charged with GBH with intent and attempted rape but pleaded guilty to attempting to cause GBH with intent and sexual assault. Jailiing him up and putting him on the sex offender register, Recorder Ben Nolan said Mills is dangerous. Anne Richardson, defending, said Mills’ family don’t condone what he did but are standing by him.
