WIRRAL CARER JAILED FOR LIFE IN BRUTAL ELDER MURDER
Jayne Hill, a carer aged 52 from Upton, Wirral, was convicted of murdering 90-year-old Myra Thompson.
The court heard that Hill repeatedly struck Mrs Thompson over the head with a metal flask and then forcibly placed a pillow over her head and neck in a brutal, sudden, ferocious, and persistent attack.
She entered Mrs Thompson's home late one evening with the intent of removing her as a witness to a theft Hill had committed.
Following the attack, Hill fled the scene, and Mrs Thompson's body was discovered the next day.
Hill had previously been suspected of theft, and a covert camera had captured her stealing from Mrs Thompson before the murder.
She pleaded guilty to murder and theft and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 and a half years.
The judge described her actions as 'a considered act of selfish motivation and an attempt at self-preservation,' noting the horrifying premeditation and breach of trust involved.
Friends and family expressed deep sorrow and anger over the killing, emphasizing Mrs Thompson's trusting and kind nature and her lifelong dedication to caring for others.
