JAYMIS VALLERY FROM METHIL WARNED AFTER TWO-YEAR DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN IN FIFE
Jaymis Vallery, a 22-year-old man from Methil, appeared before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to face charges related to a sustained period of domestic abuse against a former partner. The court was informed that the abusive behavior spanned from March 2020 to April 2022, during which Vallery engaged in multiple violent incidents at properties located in Kennoway and Leven, both within the Fife region.According to court records, Vallery physically assaulted his partner on numerous occasions. The assaults involved striking and kicking her across various parts of her body, including her arms and chest, resulting in injuries that were documented during the proceedings. The court also heard that Vallery’s conduct extended beyond physical violence, as he issued threats and displayed aggressive behavior towards the woman, creating a threatening and hostile environment.
Solicitor David McLaughlin addressed the court, acknowledging the seriousness of Vallery’s actions. He stated, “Suffice to say, Mr Vallery acknowledges this is significant offending. He has not covered himself in glory.” The court was also informed that during an interview with Fife Council’s social work department, Vallery failed to recognize the gravity of his conduct, indicating a lack of remorse or understanding of the impact of his actions.
Sheriff Timothy Niven-Smith commented on the case, emphasizing Vallery’s age and the absence of prior convictions. He noted, “I have to have regard to the fact that he’s a young man. As I read it, there was no previous convictions. Notwithstanding his youth, his immaturity and his lack of offending, he has pled guilty to a course of conduct which is over a period of two years in which he has systematically assaulted a domestic partner. In my view, it’s crossed the custody threshold.”
He further added, “If he were an adult offender there would be no question that he would be going to prison.” The sheriff also observed that Vallery appears to project a tough image in domestic settings, which he described as a form of bullying. The court ordered a supplementary report to be prepared and deferred sentencing until June 27, pending further review of the case.
