JAY LAMB FROM DARLINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Darlington, Jay Lamb, a known sex offender, has been handed an extended sentence for public protection following a series of disturbing crimes involving minors.The court heard how Lamb, aged 30, engaged in online predatory behavior that targeted young girls, asking them for 'naughty pictures' and encouraging one to touch herself.
During these exchanges, he also sent explicit photographs of his own genitalia along with his phone number and email address, attempting to lure and exploit vulnerable children.
It was revealed that Lamb had previously been convicted in 2005 for causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, which resulted in a suspended prison sentence.
His criminal record further includes a four-year prison term in 2010 after he was found guilty of attempting to have sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.
Despite completing his post-release supervision in mid-2016, Lamb's predatory behavior did not cease.
By early 2018, he was once again grooming minors through the Kik messaging platform, as detailed during the proceedings at Teesside Crown Court.
Authorities also uncovered that Lamb possessed indecent images of children as young as seven years old on his mobile phone at the time of his arrest in March.
The court was told that Lamb's actions demonstrated a persistent and dangerous interest in pre-teen children, prompting the judge to impose a significant custodial sentence.
Recorder Simon Jackson, QC, sentenced Lamb to five years and three months in prison, with an additional two years on license recall, emphasizing the high risk Lamb poses to the community.
During the sentencing, Recorder Jackson described Lamb as a high-risk offender who presents an ongoing threat of serious sexual harm to children.
The judge stated, “You have an ongoing interest in pre-teen children, and you are considered to be a high risk of further sexual behaviour.
The risk of serious harm you present to children cannot be safely managed within the community.
You fall to be categorised as a dangerous offender.
You present as an obvious and serious risk of causing serious sexual harm to young children.” It was also noted that Lamb attempted to downplay his crimes during an interview with a probation officer, claiming that his use of social networking sites was initially aimed at meeting adults, a claim the court found unconvincing.
Lamb pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, making indecent images, and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.
His conviction underscores the ongoing concerns about online grooming and the dangers posed by individuals like Lamb in the Darlington area.
