JAVEED RASHID BRADFORD SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
In January 2019, a man named Javeed Rashid from Bradford was sentenced to nearly 12 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving young girls.Rashid, who resides on Ashwell Road, off Emm Lane in the Heaton area of Bradford, was convicted of abusing four young girls in a series of disturbing incidents that shocked the local community.
During the sentencing at Bradford Crown Court, Judge Jonathan Rose addressed Rashid directly, emphasizing the gravity of his actions and the threat he posed to society.
The judge stated, "I am quite satisfied, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you pose a significant risk of serious harm to young children." He further explained that the lengthy sentence was necessary not only to punish Rashid but also to protect the public from potential future harm.
Despite Rashid's mental health difficulties, which affected his intellectual functioning, the judge made it clear that Rashid understood the difference between right and wrong.
"There can be no question but that you understood full well that what you did to these little girls was wrong and was bad," Judge Rose asserted.
"And if you were found out you would get into a lot of trouble." Rashid admitted to committing heinous acts, including the oral rape of one girl and an attempted oral rape of another.
As a result, he was sentenced to a total of 11 years and 11 months behind bars.
The judge expressed concern over Rashid’s pronounced sexual appetite, which he described as 'very significant,' and noted that there was no available treatment that could effectively address his behavior within a hospital setting.
In his remarks, Judge Rose praised the bravery of the victims, who are legally protected from being identified, for speaking out about the abuse they endured.
He acknowledged the profound and lasting impact such trauma can have, stating, "You will go to prison and when the sentence is over you will come out, but a victim of sexual abuse will feel the pain forever." The judge emphasized the importance of long-term imprisonment in cases like this, especially given Rashid’s vulnerabilities due to his mental health and limited intellectual capacity.
"It’s very, very sad to have to send to prison somebody like you.
Somebody with limited intelligence.
Someone who has a mental illness.
Someone who will struggle in prison because they are vulnerable," he added.
As part of his sentence, Rashid will be required to register as a sex offender with the police for the remainder of his life.
Additionally, he must adhere to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), which mandates that he stay away from children when he is released from prison.
The judge warned that any breach of this order would result in a return to incarceration for an even longer period.
Police have not released an image of Rashid to the public, but his conviction and sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable children from sexual predators in Bradford and beyond.
