JAVED ROBINSON FROM LEEDS SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR FILMING SEX ATTACK ON TEENAGER
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Leeds, a 22-year-old man named Javed Robinson has been sentenced to seven years in prison following a brutal sexual assault on a teenage girl. The incident took place at Robinson's residence in Leeds, specifically on Easterly Road, Harehills, where he committed the assault in January of 2013.
Robinson, who was well-known to the victim, was found guilty after a trial held last month.
The court proceedings revealed that he had carried out a violent and controlling attack, during which he recorded the assault on his mobile phone.
Despite being convicted on multiple charges, Robinson was acquitted of two additional counts of rape.
The court heard that he pleaded guilty to charges of common assault and two counts of making indecent photographs of a child, related to the footage he captured during the attack.
Judge Christopher Batty delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the malicious intent behind Robinson’s actions.
He stated, “You knew what you were doing and you wanted a record of what you were doing to her.
It was your downfall because what could be seen on that recording was her pleading for you to stop as the tears streamed from her.” The judge further described the profound impact on the victim, saying, “She has been left devastated, a changed personality.
She can’t sleep at night.
She is scared to go out and she is terrified of you.” Robinson’s legal representative, Catherine Silverton, acknowledged her client’s awareness of the severity of his sentence, noting that he accepted the possibility of a lengthy prison term given the seriousness of the offences committed.
The court also learned that Robinson has a troubling history of violent behavior, including assaults on members of his own family.
As part of his sentence, he was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
Following the sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Gail Lawrie of West Yorkshire Police’s Operation Topaz, the unit dedicated to investigating sexual offences, issued a statement.
She described Robinson as a “violent and controlling individual who physically assaulted the victim and raped her while filming the attack on his mobile phone as part of the abuse.” She highlighted the irony that the footage, which initially seemed to hinder the investigation, ultimately provided crucial evidence.
The recordings clearly showed the victim in distress, pleading for the assault to stop.
Lawrie explained that the victim was initially too frightened to cooperate but, with the support of specially trained officers, she was able to give evidence in court, leading to Robinson’s conviction.
She emphasized the police’s commitment to thoroughly investigating such cases and supporting victims throughout the process.
The police encourage victims of sexual assault to come forward, assuring them that they will receive the necessary support to ensure justice is served.
West Yorkshire Police’s Operation Topaz employs specially trained officers who assist victims from the initial report through to the conclusion of the case.
