JASON WISE SENTENCED IN BLACKPOOL AND ECCLES FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In December 2007, Jason Wise, a man from Liverpool Road, Eccles, was sentenced to 32 months in prison after being convicted of engaging in sexual activities with a minor in Blackpool.The case revealed a troubling relationship that developed between Wise and a young girl, who was only 13 years old at the time.
According to court proceedings, Wise, who was 23 years old at the time of sentencing, had formed a friendship with the girl, who was seven years his junior.
Over time, this friendship evolved into a more intimate relationship, which included physical encounters.
The relationship was not merely casual; it was serious enough that the girl later gave birth to Wise’s child when she was just 14 years old.
Blood tests confirmed that Wise was the biological father of the child.
The prosecution, led by Mr.
Mark Lamberty, outlined that the friendship and association between Wise and the girl had gradually developed into a sexual relationship.
The offences took place within the Blackpool area, and the court heard that the girl reported her pregnancy to her mother and a teacher, which ultimately brought the matter to light.
During the hearing, Wise’s defense lawyer, Mr.
Jeremy Lasker, emphasized that Wise was a young man of previously good character.
He explained that the relationship had started as a friendship and, over time, the two individuals became attracted to each other.
The lawyer described how the relationship lasted for several months, during which the girl reportedly made Wise feel special and happier than he had ever been before.
Lasker also noted that Wise had to wait a significant period before the case reached court, as he was 20 years old at the time of the offences.
Judge Anthony Russell QC addressed Wise directly during sentencing, emphasizing the seriousness of the crimes.
He stated, “Parliament has decided that offences such as this must be visited with much greater punishment than used to be the case.
I have to be loyal to that decision of Parliament and apply the law.” The judge acknowledged Wise’s claim of genuine love but underscored the gravity of the offences, describing the case as a tragedy.
As part of his sentence, Wise was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, reflecting the severity with which the court viewed his actions and the potential risk to the community.
