JASON LEE FROM MIDDLESBROUGH SENTENCED FOR DANGEROUS CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In October 2020, a disturbing case involving Jason Lee, a resident of Middlesbrough, came before Teesside Crown Court, highlighting the serious nature of his criminal activities related to child exploitation. The court was informed that police officers executed a search at Lee's residence in Middlesbrough, where they discovered a troubling collection of indecent images of children stored on his personal laptop.
The digital evidence revealed a total of 118 illicit images, categorized into different levels of severity: 65 images classified as Category A, which are considered the most serious, along with 29 images in Category B and 24 in Category C.
Prosecutor Paul Newcombe detailed the gravity of the content, noting that among the Category A images, there was a video involving 11 children aged between six and 11 years old.
The video depicted acts of oral rape, a particularly heinous form of abuse that underscores the severity of Lee's offending.
The court was also made aware that Lee had a prior conviction for similar offenses, specifically for making indecent images of children, indicating a pattern of criminal behavior.
The latest offense was uncovered on April 2 of the previous year, just four months after Lee had completed a suspended sentence, raising concerns about his ongoing risk to children.
During police interviews, Lee claimed that he had purchased a laptop and downloaded a program intended for viewing movies and music, which he suggested inadvertently led to his reoffending.
He admitted to having a sexual interest in children and expressed difficulty in managing these urges.
Lee further stated that he believed there were approximately 100 files stored on his laptop, reflecting a significant collection of illicit material.
Lee, aged 42 and residing on Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.
The court's sentencing was delivered by Judge Howard Crowson, who addressed Lee directly.
The judge emphasized that Lee had fully admitted his actions during police interviews but also acknowledged his admitted sexual interest in children.
A probation report was read aloud, confirming that Lee's interest was primarily in female children, with the judge noting that his preferences appeared to involve children as young as 10 and younger, which posed a serious risk of harm.
Judge Crowson described Lee as a dangerous individual and determined that an extended prison sentence was appropriate to ensure he remains under supervision for a longer period after his release.
Consequently, Lee was sentenced to 12 months in prison, accompanied by an extended license period of three years, reflecting the court's concern for public safety and the protection of children from further harm.
