JASON BLACK AND SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CRIMES IN TORQUAY
A man from Torquay, Jason Black, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children and violating a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).Black, aged 51, has a long history of similar offenses, which led to various court restrictions and monitoring measures designed to prevent further harm.
Despite these restrictions, he continued to access the internet in ways that were explicitly prohibited.
The police investigation was triggered when Black’s email account was linked to suspicious activity on a platform dedicated to sharing images of children.
Authorities became concerned that he was once again attempting to access or distribute indecent images.
In February, police officers executed a search at Black’s residence in Torquay.
During this search, they discovered that he had been using a computer in breach of his existing SHPO and had downloaded inappropriate images.
This breach was a clear violation of the court orders previously imposed on him.
Following his arrest, Black was released on bail.
However, subsequent police searches revealed that he had continued to use the internet on devices he was not permitted to possess.
In August, police executed a further warrant, uncovering additional evidence including memory cards and SIM cards.
It was established that Black possessed a total of 16 devices capable of accessing the internet and storing images, all in breach of his court restrictions.
Prosecutor Ms.
Kelly Scrivener emphasized that Black’s actions represented a deliberate and repeated attempt over an eight-month period to evade the restrictions imposed by his SHPO.
The court heard that Black’s criminal behavior was not isolated; he has previously served time in prison for similar offenses dating back to 2017.
His ongoing violations highlight a troubling pattern of offending despite prior legal consequences.
During the hearing, Ms.
Rachel Smith, representing Black, acknowledged that her client had shown some awareness of the harm caused by his actions and expressed remorse.
She also noted that Black is currently in poor health and is unfit to work, which may have contributed to his continued offending.
Judge David Evans sentenced Black to three years in prison.
The judge also stated that Black would serve half of his sentence behind bars, with the remaining period to be served on licence.
The case underscores the persistent challenge authorities face in monitoring and controlling individuals with a history of sexual offenses, especially those who attempt to circumvent legal restrictions through technological means.
