JASON ARMSTRONG OF DONCASTER SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGE VICTIMS FROM ACROSS THE UK

In a significant development in the ongoing fight against online child exploitation, Jason Armstrong, a man residing in Doncaster, has seen his prison sentence dramatically increased following an appeal by the Court of Appeal.

Originally sentenced to eight years in June 2017, the court deemed this punishment to be insufficient given the severity of his crimes and subsequently doubled his sentence to an imposing 16 years and eight months.

Armstrong, aged 52 and living in Moorends, Doncaster, was initially convicted of a series of heinous offences involving vulnerable young girls.

His crimes spanned a period of two years and involved the use of deceitful social media profiles to lure and sexually abuse minors.

The court heard that Armstrong had posed as both a young female and a male in his 30s, specifically targeting teenagers who were experiencing difficulties at home, thereby exploiting their vulnerabilities.

He was found guilty of multiple counts, including engaging in sexual activity with a child, meeting a child following sexual grooming, and inciting a child to engage in sexual acts.

Additionally, Armstrong was convicted of creating and distributing indecent images of children, further highlighting the depravity of his actions.

His victims, all of whom were minors aged between 15 and 17, came from various parts of the UK, including Cleveland, Cheshire, Berkshire, North and West Yorkshire, and even Scotland.

The court was informed that Armstrong’s criminal activities involved the manipulation of his victims through fake online personas.

He pretended to be a teenage girl seeking friends, and also adopted the identity of a young male in his 30s, to establish trust and facilitate his grooming process.

His method involved messaging apps and social media platforms, where he would introduce himself as 'Jay,' claiming to be a friend of his fake persona, thereby gaining the confidence of vulnerable teenagers.

Lady Justice Sharp, presiding over the case, emphasized the seriousness of Armstrong’s offences.

She described his crimes as “very serious” and stated that the original sentence was “unduly lenient by a considerable margin.” The court also noted that Armstrong, who was previously considered to be of “good character,” had exploited the trust of young victims for his own depraved purposes.

The hearing was conducted via video-link from prison, underscoring the ongoing judicial process and the importance of addressing online child exploitation.

In a related case from June 2017, Armstrong was sentenced to eight years for a series of sexual offences committed against teenage girls he met online.

This earlier sentence was also challenged, leading to the Court of Appeal’s decision to increase the penalty significantly.

The investigation was initiated after South Yorkshire Police received a report in 2016 about Armstrong’s use of fake social media profiles to target vulnerable girls.

His criminal activities spanned multiple regions, including Doncaster, where he resided, and extended to other parts of the UK, demonstrating the widespread nature of his offending.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Armstrong’s actions have been recognized as a grave threat to the safety and well-being of young people.

The judicial system’s response, culminating in the substantial increase in his sentence, reflects the seriousness with which such crimes are now being treated, especially those involving online grooming and exploitation of minors.
