JANIS SNAEDERS FROM BRADFORD AND WAKEFIELD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING UNDERAGE GIRLS
In June 2017, a disturbing case unfolded involving Janis Snaeders, a 31-year-old man whose actions have shocked the communities of Bradford and Wakefield.Snaeders was found guilty of a series of serious sexual offences, including the exploitation of underage girls through social media and the possession of indecent images.
During the trial at Bradford Crown Court, it was revealed that Snaeders, who was residing on Legrams Lane, Lidget Green, Bradford at the time, had engaged in predatory behavior targeting young girls.
He had contacted minors in South Yorkshire via Facebook in 2014, sending them unsolicited messages that included graphic images.
Among these were photographs of a young girl he had previously abused, along with a self-portrait he took of himself in a sexually explicit pose.
The victims, aged between 13 and 15, received these images without any prior contact or consent, highlighting the malicious and predatory nature of Snaeders' actions.
Prosecutor Michael Smith detailed how Snaeders had sent four girls photographs of a girl he had abused, showing her naked breast while she was asleep.
These messages also contained explicit images of himself and boasted about his abusive acts.
The court heard that Snaeders’ communications were entirely unsolicited, with the victims having no idea who was behind the messages or the images they received.
Law enforcement officials tracked Snaeders to his residence in Bradford, where they seized his phone and computer.
Investigations uncovered images of a sleeping young girl, with her clothing moved aside to reveal her naked breast.
These images bore a striking resemblance to the photographs sent to the girls in South Yorkshire via Facebook messages.
Further examination of his digital devices revealed folders filled with indecent images of young girls, confirming his possession of illegal material.
Snaeders, who later moved to Pinderfields Road in Wakefield, denied all allegations, claiming he was not responsible for taking the photographs, sending the messages, or hoarding the indecent images.
He insisted that he had recently acquired the computer and suggested that someone else might have used it to commit these crimes.
However, the evidence presented in court was overwhelming, and the jury found him guilty of eight counts, including sexual activity with a child, taking indecent photographs of a child, causing a child to watch a sexual act, and possession of indecent images.
Judge David Hatton QC addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of Snaeders' crimes.
