PORTSMOUTH CHILD RAPIST JAMIE WILLIAMS SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS IN PRISON
In a case that has shocked the community of Portsmouth, a man named Jamie Williams has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 13 years for a series of heinous crimes committed against a young girl. The offences, which took place in Portsmouth, involved multiple instances of sexual assault, including two particularly serious rapes, and were characterized by the court as 'appalling' and meticulously planned.Williams, aged 32 and residing on Inverness Road in the Buckland area, appeared in Portsmouth Crown Court to face the consequences of his actions. Throughout the proceedings, he maintained a blank expression as the judge delivered the sentence. The court found him guilty of four counts of sexual assault, two counts of more serious sexual assaults, and two counts of rape. The severity of his crimes was underscored by the presiding judge, Roger Hetherington, who described the offences as 'appalling' and noted that they appeared to have been carried out with a degree of planning.
Judge Hetherington emphasized the profound impact such crimes have on victims, especially young girls, stating, 'These were appalling offences which were the result of a degree of planning on your part.' He further remarked that the trauma inflicted on the girl was unsurprising given the nature of the offences. The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, expressed her frustration at the delays in achieving justice. She had to endure a third trial after the first jury was dismissed and a second trial was postponed due to ongoing medical evidence collection.
Despite the delays, she bravely watched from the public gallery at Portsmouth Crown Court via video-link as Williams was sentenced. In a poignant moment, her statement was read aloud by prosecutor Matthew Lawson. She said, 'I was just a little girl. I hope I can get my life back. I will not let what he has done to me stop me from being successful.' She also described her feelings about the verdict, stating, 'I think that he is a monster – I’m so relieved that he was found guilty.'
Her family also issued a statement, reflecting on the profound impact of the ordeal. They said, 'Our lives changed forever and after nearly two hellish years we are still putting the pieces back together. We hope January next year will be a new beginning for all of us and we can’t thank enough all those involved in bringing the case to trial and getting justice.' The girl recounted her fear during the period of investigation, saying, 'On occasions I thought he was going to get away with this.'
Forensic medical evidence, which was agreed upon by both the prosecution and defense, detailed the physical pain and suffering endured by the victim. She recounted an incident where she saw Williams in the street after reporting the attacks, which left her physically shaking and crying. The court heard that Williams had attempted to subtly pressure the girl to prevent her from reporting the crimes to police.
As part of his sentence, Williams was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life. He maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, denying all charges. The case has left a lasting scar on the Portsmouth community, highlighting the importance of justice for victims of such grave offences.
