Joshua Pryor

Portsmouth Sexual Abuser

October 2012 Paedophile jailed for nine years for abusing and raping young girls THE family of a girl who was abused by a paedophile have spoken of the damage he has done. Joshua Pryor has been jailed for nine years and three months for offences involving four young girls. He plied his victims with drink before raping and abusing them. Relatives of one of the girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were at Portsmouth Crown Court to see Pryor sentenced. Her aunt, 31, said: ‘Nine years does not make up for what she has gone through. ‘How can anyone do those things? It’s absolutely disgusting. ‘We have all had to go through so much. That poor girl has had all that happen to her. ‘I can’t even put into words how I would describe him. He is an animal.’ Pryor, of Coburg Street, Landport, Portsmouth, was found guilty by a jury of three counts of rape and four of sexual activity with a child. The 20-year-old, who has convictions for 13 previous offences including causing grievous bodily harm and affray, admitted a charge of escape after he ran away from police when he was arrested for the offences. Jailing him Judge Sarah Munro QC said: ‘Between 2010 and early this year you befriended underage girls. ‘You would ply them with drink and cigarettes and make them believe that they were mature enough to have sexual relationships with you. ‘They were attracted to you and your charms. ‘To some extent they even vied for your affection and you played on that in order to satisfy your own sexual needs.’ She added: ‘You have all the makings of a sexual predator. You were clearly obsessed with underage girls.’ Stephen Smyth, defending, described Pryor as immature for his age. ‘People who are too immature to bond with their own age group tend to look for younger people,’ he said. The court made a sexual offences prevention order, which bans Pryor from having contact with anyone under 16, except for in everyday life such as in shops or when he has permission from parents who know about his convictions. The order, which runs until the court decides to lift it, also bans him from deleting his search history if he uses the internet. He will be on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. As reported in The News, two men have been jailed for a vigilante attack on Pryor. Stuart Hunt, 47, of Montgomery Road, Southsea, was jailed for 21 months for assault causing actual bodily harm. John Sargeant, 46, of Reginald Road, Southsea, received 14 months for the same offence.
