SOUTHPORT PAEDOPHILE JAMIE SHARKEY CAUGHT FILMING SEX ACT AND POSSESSING CHILD IMAGES
In August 2022, a disturbing incident involving Jamie Sharkey, a resident of Southport, came to light during a court hearing at Liverpool Crown Court.Sharkey, aged 33, was found to have engaged in highly inappropriate and illegal activities that raised serious concerns about his conduct and potential threat to the community.
It was revealed that Sharkey had filmed himself performing a sexual act in broad daylight, standing at his open front door.
The footage showed him sitting on the floor of his hallway, with the door wide open, as he engaged in the act while looking out onto the street and the car park situated opposite his residence.
This act of public indecency was captured on video, highlighting a reckless disregard for privacy and public decency.
Further investigations uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent images stored on Sharkey’s mobile device.
Among these were ten images of children, including one classified as Category A, which is considered the most severe form of abuse.
Additionally, an extreme pornographic image involving a horse was also discovered, indicating a pattern of disturbing interests.
Police had previously responded to Sharkey’s residence on Mellors Close in Southport on May 7 of the previous year.
During this visit, a support worker present at the scene informed officers that Sharkey had deleted his internet search history on his mobile phone.
This action prompted officers to seize his iPhone for further analysis.
Subsequent forensic examination confirmed that the search history had indeed been erased, raising suspicions of an attempt to conceal illicit activity.
The device analysis revealed more troubling content.
Besides the indecent images, the phone contained notes with highly inappropriate and concerning language, including a message stating, “I want a hot schoolgirl to suck my d***.” Prosecutor Jamie Baxter emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “We don’t know what’s missing or what might have been there.” Sharkey’s criminal record included a previous conviction from November 2019, where he was sentenced to a two-year community order after being found guilty of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting sexual communications with a minor.
He was also subject to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), which mandated, among other restrictions, that he was not allowed to delete his internet history.
Despite these measures, Sharkey breached the order by deleting his search history, leading to the seizure of his phone and the discovery of the illicit images and videos.
He admitted to possession of indecent images, making three counts of creating indecent images, possessing extreme pornographic material, and breaching the sexual harm prevention order.
In sentencing, Judge Garrett Byrne described the seriousness of Sharkey’s actions.
He explained that the order was intended to protect the public, especially young girls, from individuals like Sharkey.
The judge emphasized that each image represented an abused child and that such material fuels a harmful market that encourages the production of more abuse images.
He expressed concern over Sharkey’s apparent inability or unwillingness to cease these activities.
Regarding the video footage, Judge Byrne characterized it as a distorted attempt by Sharkey to attract the attention of young children.
He noted that although Sharkey could distinguish right from wrong, his sexual urges appeared to override his rational judgment.
As a result, Sharkey was sentenced to a 16-month prison term, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he received a new, amended 10-year sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from having unsupervised contact with children.
The order also includes a notification requirement for the same period.
Sharkey is required to complete up to 50 days of rehabilitation activities, pay a victim surcharge, and his phone was ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.
