JAMIE MOSELEY FROM BORROWASH SENTENCED AFTER SECOND CONVICTION FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN DERBYSHIRE

In June 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Jamie Moseley, a resident of Borrowash, Derbyshire, who faced justice once again for possessing indecent images of children. Despite his previous conviction for similar offenses, Moseley was found to have continued his illicit activities, leading to a significant legal response.

On December 5, 2018, police officers executed a search at Moseley's residence on Newbold Avenue in Borrowash. During the search, they recovered a Samsung Galaxy phone and an iPhone, which together contained a staggering total of 171 Category A indecent images depicting children as young as one being subjected to rape or torture. In addition, there were 58 Category B images and 44 Category C images, all of a highly disturbing nature.

Prosecutor Gurdial Singh told Derby Crown Court that the files were discovered in the junk bin of the phone, indicating deliberate possession of these illegal images. During police interviews, Moseley attempted to deny any gratification from viewing the images, claiming he had accessed them in error while browsing adult pornography on the Kik messenger platform. However, this explanation was met with skepticism.

Singh emphasized that Moseley's claims did not hold up under scrutiny, especially considering his criminal history. Moseley had previously been convicted of eight offenses related to the creation and distribution of indecent images of children dating back to 2013. He also had an unrelated conviction, further complicating his case.

In 2013, Moseley received a community order as a first-time offender, but at that time, there was no specialized program available through the probation service to address this type of offending behavior. The court was informed that his repeated offenses demonstrated a troubling pattern.

Judge Smith addressed Moseley directly, stating: "You’re back before the court for exactly the same kind of offenses you committed in 2013. On that occasion, you were given an opportunity to reflect on your actions through a community order. Now, you are again found with images that are not only fewer in number but equally, if not more, disturbing in content. The images involve very young children, and your previous conviction, combined with the nature of these images, means you cross the custody threshold."

Admitting to all charges, Moseley was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, for the possession of Category A indecent images. Concurrent sentences of 12 months and six months were also imposed for the Category B and Category C images, respectively, and these were similarly suspended for two years.

Furthermore, Moseley is required to sign the sex offenders register for the next decade and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same period. He must also complete 55 sessions of rehabilitation activity, attend 43 days of a structured rehabilitation program, and undertake 200 hours of unpaid community work as part of his sentence.
